One hacker used AI agents to breach 100+ companies' sites

Oct 19, 2026

NorForge researcher Snorre Fagerland analyzed more than 20 exposed control panels for Cairn, an open-source agent platform, that were likely being used for malicious work. The most active cluster had over 1,100 attack projects across 14 panels; NorForge estimates about a 10% success rate and a little under 23 hours on average for successful projects. Reuters reported the hacker breached websites of more than 100 companies, including Deere, SharkNinja and Cummins, after attempting more than 1,200 sites, at roughly $50 in tokens per successful hack (citing Fagerland's estimate).

For builders: Audit anything you expose to the internet, including agent control panels and admin UIs. Attackers now have cheap, patient, automated labor.

Google unveils Agent Compute Engine and open-source Agent Substrate

Oct 22, 2026

At AGNTCon + MCPCon North America, Google announced Agent Compute Engine, a compute service built for agents that already powers Gemini, with a customer preview "in the coming months." Each agent gets a hardware-isolated microVM with checkpoint and resume. Google also open-sourced Agent Substrate, a Kubernetes-native agent runtime that Google says reaches up to 10x compute density.

For builders: "Every agent gets its own computer" is now a hyperscaler product category. Keep your runtime layer swappable.
